Recently, that commitment took us on the road as our team travelled to one of North America’s leading independent research facilities to validate the performance of our latest ventilation technology.
Collaborating for Better Performance
Exacon Sales Representative, Jim Cameron, joined Exacon supplier, Monitrol, for a hands-on testing session at the University of Illinois Bioenvironmental and Structural Systems Laboratory (BESS Labs). BESS Labs is an independent, globally recognized facility that specializes in agricultural and industrial ventilation testing and research.
Upon his return to Exacon Jim shared “It was encouraging to see firsthand at BESS Labs that we’re on the right track with Monitrol’s EC fan motor technology in our new exhaust fan line (up to 36 inch diameter). The initial testing delivered strong results, demonstrating excellent efficiency and performance. We’re excited to build on that success and continue refining the product even further.”

Our most recent visit focused on testing our new EC Exhaust Fans equipped with GENIUS Electronically Commutated Motors. These advanced motors are designed to deliver superior efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and precise controllability compared to traditional AC motors – all important features for modern livestock operations.
At BESS Labs, our team measured key performance metrics, including:
• Airflow output across varying static pressure conditions
• Energy consumption, including wattage, voltage, and amperage
• Fan efficiency (CFM per watt) across operating ranges
• Performance at multiple motor speeds and load conditions
By testing in a controlled, third-party environment, we gain accurate, unbiased data that helps validate performance claims and identify opportunities for further optimization.
